OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS SPEAK:

Working with Prospera Initiatives has been wonderful!  An added bonus of creating the Heritage Language Literacy Club has been the significant increase in parent involvement by Hispanic parents.  They feel welcomed by the activities of the Club, and this translates into greater participation in other school-wide activities.”

“Before the arrival of Propsera Initiatives’ consultant, we were feeling quite challenged about getting our heritage language literacy program off the ground.  After Dr. Percy Calaff’s two days of intensive training, we felt that we now had the knowledge, tools, and resources that we needed to launch our program.  It was really amazing how much we accomplished in such a short time!”

What we do:

Prospera Initiatives, Inc. builds the capacity of schools to increase the number of minority students involved in constructive after-school programs.

Educators come to Prospera Initiatives for assistance creating and sustaining after-school programs, and to take advantage of our expertise in program development, curriculum design, fundraising, and working with disadvantaged populations.

Schools succeed by collaborating with Prospera Initiatives consultants to:

    • Comprehensive support that guides teachers through key stages of planning, including training of tutors and volunteers
    • Core curriculum of lessons for use in the after-school program
    • Program manual on CD-ROM with customizable forms for communication in both English and Spanish.
  • Provide teachers and tutors with professional development to lead after-school programs.  Tools include:
    • Teacher Training Workshops

Equip educators to lead the programs, develop effective literacy practices, plan lessons, evaluate progress, and build the skills of young adult tutors.

    • Tutor Training Workshops

Help meet the specific needs of young adult tutors who are often in their first responsible position of leadership.

  • Support successful outcomes through follow-up visits and ongoing assistance throughout the year.
